How to Create a Painting
Step 1
Find an idea
Before creating a painting, you must find an idea, to find one you can:
• Brainstorm
• Draw Thumbnails (small drawings)
• Find inspiration (photos, another artist)

Step 2
Gather Supplies
After you have your idea, you must gather your supplies for painting, to paint you will need:
• A canvas (any size)
• Brushes
• Paint (Acrylic or oil)
• A pallet
• A water cup
• Any additional supplies (up to you!)

Step 3
Prepare Canvas
To prepare your canvas for painting you:
1. Sand surface
2. Cover canvas in gesso/primer
3. Sand surface again

Step 4
Underpainting/Undersketch
To start painting you can:
• Draw a light sketch
• Paint a light wash (diluted paint layer)
Step 5
Painting
Once you are ready you can start painting, somethings to be aware of are:
• Am I mixing my colours
• How many layers do I need
• What do I like

Finish/Display
Once all that is done you are ready to display your work!
